2010 – Niseko – Japan
In 2010 a small group of core Discovery Snow Tours fans took a scouting trip to Niseko to see if it lived up to all of the marketing hype.
Niseko provided some stellar days of powder and the off-piste area is amazingly large. As you would expect this lead to some team members being caught off guard and buried in snow drifts up to their chest. The on-piste runs provided a good variety of terrain, and the Hilton Hotel at the bottom of the main run became a popular place for coffee breaks.
The crew found some great eating places and some real quirky bars, like the one hidden behind an old fridge door! However, Niseko lacked the true authentic Japanese feel of other ski fields like Nozawa or Furano having been somewhat overrun by Westerners.
"I had no idea that Japan was so amazingly beautiful. Not just the amazing ski slopes, but the incredible scenery from the nearby mountains and valleys to the Sea of Japan. Thanks for helping me discovery this amazing place."
