Wayne is the Chief Ski Officer and the original inspiration behind Discovery Snow Tours. In this role Wayne is responsible for the organization of all skiing related activities and is also the lead ski coach.
After many years of skiing recreationally, Wayne became a ski instructor at Australia's Mt Hotham resort in 1988. He was then recruited by the Australian Ski Team (development squad) in 1990 as a moguls specialist.
From 1992 to 1996 Wayne skied professionally at full competition level as a Freestyle Moguls Skier, representing Australia in France, Canada, New Zealand, USA and more. Wayne stepped down from professional skiing in 1996 having accomplished much in his 4 years of competition.
Wayne's extensive knowledge and experience extends beyond the techniques of skiing in all conditions, to the mechanics and design of skis and boots. Wayne will happily offer advice and feedback on choices of skis, boots, riser plates and more, be it for purchase or hire.
"I've been fortunate to have skied in several places around the world and have been coached by some wonderful instructors. It brings me enormous pleasure to help others experience some of the amazing cultural locations along with sharing some ski techniques I encountered in my life. I hope to meet you on tour someday soon!" - Wayne
Ian is the Chief Snowboard Officer for Discovery Snow Tours. In this role Ian is responsible for the organization of all snowboarding related activities and is also the lead snowboard coach.
Ian started snowboarding in 1989, and in 1993 became the first full-time snowboard instructor at Falls Creek, Australia, and was head Snowboard instructor until 1998. Ian was also an accredited APSI (Australian Professional Snowsport Instructors) trainer and examiner, training snowboard instructors all across Australia.
Ian has spent seasons in Austria as Chief instructor at two different resorts (Kirchberg and Westendorf), providing him with a very extensive technical knowledge of snowboarding from groomed piste runs to deep powder.
Having coached Giant Slalom, Boarder-cross and Half-pipe, Ian is more than ready to help everyone achieve whatever they want from snowboarding, no matter what level. Novice boarders love to 'dance' down the mountain with Ian, feeling safe and secure when just starting out.
"Snowboarding isn't an extreme sport, it's a feeling of freedom and exhilaration. My greatest passion in snowboarding is exploration, that's something I love to share." - Ian
Simon is the Chief Mountain Officer for Discovery Snow Tours. In this role Simon is responsible for all of the logistics and scheduling behind every trip.
Simon is a seasoned traveller and has skied in multiple countries around the world (including indoors in Dubai, and via helicopter in Canada). When the powder snow is dumping you will see him cruising around the mountain on a snowboard, and often with a camera in hand.
Besides managing the logistics for every tour, Simon also assists Wayne as a ski coach specializing in coaching novice to base intermediate skiers. Simon has been seen many times skiing backwards down the mountain encouraging and coaching first time skiers.
Simon also acts as a mountain guide and is the person to ask where the nearest restrooms are, what restaurants to try or who serves the best ice cream on the mountain! Simon enjoys the after effects of a day on the snow - sitting in front of a fire, drink in hand, discussing the day.
"Snow holidays are about so much more than the ski or snowboarding. The fun of new experiences, new food, new friends and the sheer feeling of relaxation you get looking out over a field of pure white. Discovery Snow Tours helps you discover all of these for yourself with our support behind you all the way." - Simon
Sarah is the CFO (Chef Female Officer) for Discovery Snow Tours. In this role Sarah is responsible for being an awesome ski coach, especially for the ladies.
Sarah fell in love with skiing when she was just 7 years old and it's been a lasting passion!
With Falls Creek as her home mountain it was only natural that the Falls Creek Ski School would be part of her life, she joined ski school in 1996 teaching children and adults in private or group environments.
Of particular significance is Sarah's interest in building confidence in female skiers, this was brought to life by being a key instructor for the Women's Program held annually in Falls Creek. Sarah was also a ski pro with the Canadian Whistler Blackcomb Ski School.
